The infantry, the infantry, with dirt behind their ears...they can whup their weight in wildcats and drink their weight in beers...the cavalry, artillery, and even the engineers...they'll never catch the infantry, not in a hundred thousand years!

Notes Regarding This Muster Roster

The Butram family seems to have more members in the 9th Kentucky Infantry Regiment than any other family. The regiment has three men whose names are higher in rank than their actual wartime rank. 2nd Lieutenant Major B. McDuffee, Sergeant General M. Bronson and Private Commodore P. Waddle.

Co G lists a Private George T. Fraim, the son of farmer John M. Fraim who initially armed the 9th Regiment and provided land for their first military post, Camp Anderson. John Fraim was born in Jackson (later Clay) County, Tennessee in 1813. At the start of the war he owned a thousand acres of land and thirty slaves. While working as a government contractor near Columbia, Kentucky he was captured by Confederates and taken to Nashville. After being interrogated he was released and on his way home was shot in the breast by guerillas. After falling to the ground one of the guerillas placed a revolver near his head to finish him off. But in the dark Fraim moved his head a little to one side and the shot missed. Feigning death, Fraim made his way to a house in Jamestown (now Fountain Run) where he was carefully tended and in a few days given a Union escort to Glasgow, Kentucky by Colonel Graham of that town. John Fraim had given the greatest encouragement to the Union cause of any man in Southern Kentucky.
