and Undergraduate Scholarships


Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Oklahoma State University. Research opportunities are available in growth & development, integrated pest management, low input systems, mineral nutrition, postharvest and stress physiology, and water quality and conservation. Commodity areas include floriculture, fruit and nuts, turf, vegetables, and woody ornamentals. Benefits include 12-month assistantships, out-of-state fee waivers, and health benefits.

Exceptional applicants to the turfgrass science program are eligible for presidential scholarships provided by an endowment. Outstanding students from other commodity areas are also eligible for recruitment incentive awards. The department requires international applicants to supply official TOEFL scores. Additional graduate fellowship stipend supplements are available to qualified students. Graduate Assistantship. A ½-time graduate assistantship is available to work on nitrogen and nickel nutrition of pecan. The research will involve both greenhouse and field studies that contribute to understanding nitrogen absorption, partitioning, recycling and losses in pecan. Nickel is a recently recognized essential element. Work related to nickel will develop baseline information related to the sufficiency of nickel in Oklahoma pecan orchards. In addition, the role of nitrogen and nickel in a physiological kernel disorder "kernel necrosis" will be investigated. The assistantship is available for either M.S. or Ph.D. candidates. Out-of-state tuition is waived. The stipend is $20,000/year, plus a scholarship is available to support travel to one professional meeting per year.
